Paul H. Sighinolfi Esq a senior managing director with Ametros has spent time since the pandemic shutdown talking with and formerly interviewing regulators, Workers’ Compensation medical specialists and senior Workers’ Compensation judges on how the virus has impacted the work they do. He has moderated webinars where regulators discussed how no-one in the national workers’ compensation regulatory community anticipated the impact a pandemic could have on the operation of their agencies. How did states adjust? What changes were made and what they foresee will be the legacy of this experience. Medical experts , a forensic psychiatrist and occupational medical specialist, shared what they were observing as the virus swept through country. What is a virus, how are they transmitted, how were workplaces adapting, how can workers be protected, are certain co-morbidities of more concern than others, what are the emotional implications of a state shutdown for some and having to deal with the public for others, is telemedicine a valid alternative in this period of social distancing. These are but a few of the questions considered by the medical experts. A panel of senior ALJs from across the county shared their thoughts on the pandemic’s effect on case management, decision making , settlements and the nature of claims being filed. This webinar will provide a comprehensive appreciation of what the experts have shared. Time permitting the presentation will conclude with practice pointers on a few evolving best practices on how to best protect a settling client from MSA problems post settlement.

Paul provides thought leadership, leads regulatory and policy initiatives, and provides meaningful strategic direction and insight at Ametros. Prior to Ametros, Paul was the Executive Director and Chairman of the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board. Previously, he was a partner at Rudman & Winchell, where he was a member of the firm’s litigation department and directed the workers’ compensation practice group. In his practice he represented both plaintiffs and defendants, and coauthored Maine Employment Guide: Workers’ Compensation. Paul was a member and Chair of the Board of Bar Overseers, an appointment by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Paul was also appointed to the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection, where he was the Fund Chair. He is a fellow of the American Bar Association, College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, was on the Executive Committee of the Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrator and served on the board of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC). Paul is also the Vice President of Kids Chance Maine. Paul earned his master’s degree at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and his law degree at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America, in Washington, D. C.
